The Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks are excited to announce their 2025 season of Architecture Ambles walking tours.
We start the season with Gary’s tour of historic downtown Wausau. The Downtown Historic Tour will feature the buildings that helped Wausau grow through the years. Many buildings have a unique and valuable story about how Wausau came to be what it is today. Downtown has been the center of the commercial, religious, and entertainment culture of Wausau and the tour will feature these stories. This tour will be on May 29th starting at 6pm, more details to be released soon.
On June 26th Carl and special guest Tom Kilian, a founding member of Citizens for a Clean Wausau, explore the area around 3M with a hybrid tour combining the history, architecture, and environmental history in one tour. This combined tour will tell the story of not only the industry but the lasting effects still impacting the community. The tour will start at 6pm at Riverside Park (100 Sherman St, Wausu). More details to come.
Christine will lead a tour exploring Grand Avenue in Schofield on July 31. Points of interest include churches, an elementary school, community theater, and a vanillan factory. The tour will start at 6pm. More details to be released closer to the date.
Wrapping up the walking tour season on August 28th, Patrick looks at Stewart Avenue West. Learn about the Horak’s farmland that once occupied the area and top it off with a quick stop at Day’s Bowl-A-Dome and learn about their history. The Tour will start at 6pm. More information to come.
