Good news from City Hall tonight for historic preservation!
Tonight the Wausau Historic Preservation Commission approved furthering the landmarking process for the Little Red School House in Marathon Park and St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church. It will now come before Planning Commission where, as City Planner Brad Lenz pointed out in the meeting., the criteria for passing is a bit different (the Historical Commission focuses on the historical value). The last step in the process is then approval from the Wausau City Council.
Thank you to those who came and voiced their support! Your insight into the history and importance of St. John the Baptist is wonderful. We recommend that you take a moment to hear their full comments at https://www.youtube.com/live/g5NZjXYbLpk?si=YN9J3WO2BGGtR3bI
Here are a couple of great quotes from those who spoke in support of landmark status for St John the Baptist:
– “St. Johns not only stands as a stunning example of Tudor Revival architecture, but as a cornerstone of our community’s spiritual and cultural life for welll over a century…” – Doug Ramsey
-“We are a congregatuin that are acutely aware of our history.” Father Samuel Cripps
