Architecture Amble: Thomas Street Neighborhood Rescheduled

Due to the potential of severe weather, The Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks is rescheduling their June Architecture Amble to Monday, June 30, starting at 6 pm. The tour will begin at the lower parking lot of Riverside Park.

This special tour will not only look at the architecture and history of the area, but will include information about the continuing environmental impact of the industries that once populated and still do populate the area.

The tour will be led by Carl Martens of Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks, with special guest founding member and spokesperson for Citizens for Clean Wausau, Tom Kilian. The tour will explore the Thomas Street neighborhood and its long history of industries such as furniture making, sandpaper manufacturing , tanneries, and more. In addition, the area’s small businesses, such as taverns, and parks will be highlighted.

Remember to dress for the weather and be sure to wear good walking shoes as there will be some uneven surfaces. Please note that this tour may be longer than our typical tours.

As always, the tour is free and open to all ages. Free will donations are always appreciated.
