The Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks will host their first Architecture Amble walking tour of the summer on Thursday, June 25. The tour will explore the East Towne Neighborhood, beginning at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 N 6th Street, at 6:00 pm.
The evening begins with a special tour of the recently nationally landmarked Zion Lutheran Church, built in 1953 but the congregation goes back more than 150 years. This Late Gothic Revival church has a striking exterior and interior, featuring a stone veneer, numerous stained glass windows, Gothic arches, ceramic floor tiles, a large pipe organ, and more.
The tour will then head out into the neighborhood and learn more about many locally recognized buildings and favorite businesses, as well as the houses of those that helped create the community. Highlights will include The Milwaukee Road Train Depot, The Hiawatha Lounge, The Philosophers Press, Wausau Tent and Canvas, and The Domino.
Architecture Ambles are open to all and no reservations are required. Tours may include uneven ground, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please watch the Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks Facebook page and website, www.wausauhistoriclandmarks.org, for any updates due to weather.
