November has blown in and by request we headed north on 6th Street for today’s WHAT (Wausau Historic Architecture Tuesday) – to the corner East Wausau and North 6th Street (2108 N. 6th Street).
Built in 1895 this retail building is in the Commercial style – but has some Italianate details. These details include hoods over the windows (minus the backside), and window sills, as well as corbels and dentals along the roofline on two sides.
This is a large building with several commercial spaces and apartments. The address appears to vary in the city directories through the years. Below is our best effort to interpret the general history of the building – it is not an absolutely complete listing.
It is shown in the 1896 and 1912 Sanborn Maps as a general store at 2108. There is no 2010 noted on these maps.
