Oppenhamer & Obel: Architects That Built Wausau’s Neighborhoods and Skyline

Join the Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks on Saturday, December 6, at 1:30 pm at the Marathon Public Library – Wausau Headquarters for their first in a series of presentations about the architects who helped create many of Wausau’s unique buildings.

Oppenhamer and Obel, with offices in Wausau and Green Bay, helped give Wausau’s downtown and many neighborhoods their familiar look. With hundreds of buildings designed by the firm, from government buildings to homes, and schools to theaters, and even a few fair buildings, their design work helped define our community. Their most recognizable buildings include the Grand Theater, the Elks Lodge, Marathon Park’s Exhibition Building, and Holy Name School.

We will take a look at the lives of architects William Oppenhamer and Irving Obel, their architectural careers, and a closer look at some of the buildings they designed. Their work stands as a testament to their knowledge, expertise, and art.

This presentation is free and open to all. The presentation will be held in the Community Room on the second floor of the library.
