WHAT! time again! And it’s a two for one today. We’ll stay on the westside of town, but head over towards South Second Avenue and Maple Street – to 202- 204 North 2nd Ave.
Historically this was known as the Bock-Strobridge General Store, today it is Scotties Interiors .
Though they act as one building, they were built separately. 202 was built in 1886 in a commercial style with hints of classical revival and Italianate as can be seen in the dentils below the roof and keystones over the windows. 204 was erected in 1910 in a much plainer commercial design.
The 1898 Samborn Map shows this to be a General Store owned by Alfred Bock and E. Stobridge.
By 1902 it had become Hochtritt Groceries until the 1950s.
1961 and 1965 City Directoies show Wausau Sign Company at 202 Second Ave. At 204 United Paper Makers and Paper Workers in 1961 and vacant in 1965.
By about 1970 it is listed as Scotties Interiors
