Wausau Architecture Tuesday – Crooks Law Offices

We are Still celebrating Historic Preservation Month! Today’s WHAT (Wausau Historic Architecture Tuesday) is right on a main drag – 210 6th Street. It was built on about 1880 in a commercial style.

It was a part of the downtown commercial landscape for many years. Its early years are a bit clouded as we could not find it in the City Directories.

From 1927-1948 it was George Brose Meats. He was a favorite butcher for many. He passed away in about 1953.

Next the building became the home of Central Food Market from about 1948-1955. This was owned by . Arnold and Minerva Scharmer, who lived in the Southeast Side at the time.

For a brief time, 1956-1957, itvonce again became a meat market, Olson’s Meat Market. This was owned by Everett and Ruth Olson.

In 1965 it became the offices of Wausau Lumber Sales, owned by Raymond and Laura Sayer. It remained their offices until about 1983. Other businesses also shared the space at different times, including Woodmen’s Accident and Life, Attorney Robert Dopkins, and Champan Insurance.

From 1983- about 2000! It was used by Crooks Law Offices. And for a short time A-T Video Equipment and Sales.

Today it is listed as owned by Marathon County.
