Wausau Architecture Tuesday – Wausau Feed

It’s a rainy Tuesday and time for WHAT! This week’s building was a request from a fellow history lover and avid bicyclist about town. It’s a bit off the beaten path at 739 Jefferson Street.

Some of the history of this building can be seen on its front sign, which has been well preserved by its owner. And we thank them for that!

It is built in a commercial style. Perhaps with a hint of Boomtown based on the tall front facade.

The assessor’s office says this building was erected in about 1948. But businesses for this location can be found as far back as 1933.

The City Directory tells us this approximate timeline:

1933-1940 – Wausau Flour and Feed Warehouse

1940 – Wausau Feed and Elevator

1942-1968 – Wausau Feed and Grain

(Theo J Schliesman, Manager)

1969-1979 – Northern Milling Company Feed (Walter Langhoff, Manager)

1980 – 1987 – General Feeds and Seeds

1988 – 1994- listed as vacant

1995 – no longer listed in the city directory
